La Perouse Bay hike
Morning to La Perouse Bay to try snorkeling, but it was super murky. Hiked down the coast toward light beacon, saw old walls, watched surfers, saw shrines to dead surfers, old fishing shrine, lots of birds and wild goats. Kalua Pork tacos from food truck near Makena beach, then snorkeled at Makena Landing (marginal, pretty murky), briefly lost gopro when it fell out of my pocket, but a nice Hawaiian man found it floating. There was a memorial service happening at the park at Makena Landing, and after the eulogies, a group of women danced a hula in their normal street clothes. Swam and body surfed at Palauea beach and met a nice brindle dog. Drove to Ma’alea bay, but there’s nothing fun there. Went to Kealia Pond boardwalk and saw cool birds. Swam and body surfed at Wailea Beach, then dinner at Da Kitchen Kihei (chicken katsu/kalua pork combo plate).
