Maui day 7: Hamoa Beach, Nu’u petroglyphs, Olowalu petroglyphs, snorkeling

Hamoa Beach run

Ran in the morning down to Koki beach, then around to Hamoa and back home, saw a pheasant. To Hamoa Beach in the morning (saw another pheasant). People near Hamoa beach have lots of anti-US signs in yards. Shopped at hasegawa’s, got gas, checked out of cottage. Drove backside to Ulupalakua, stopped at Palapala Ho’omau church (lindbergh grave), Nu’u petroglyph site (so cool), Manawanui gulch. Bought wine at Ulupalakua and had lunch at the ranch store. Stopped again at Komoda Bakery, but they were out of fresh stuff. Got a couple donuts on a stick and some frozen cream puffs for later. Down through Kahului and Ma’alea to Lahaina road. Stopped briefly at MacGregor point to see the view and light signal, then at the Lahaina Pali trailhead. Took a wrong turn and ended up with kiawe thorns in our flipflops (and Nikki’s legs), hiked briefly up the pre-1952 road bed up above the main road for an amazing view. Petroglyph site at Olowalu valley, then snorkeling along the road very nearby (first snorkeling with visibility on the island). Drove to Lahaina and down Front Street, dinner at Star Noodle (decent saimin, but worst service ever). Checked into Kahana Falls, too cold to swim in pool.
